SpectraDerm 5000

SpectraDerm 5000 is a new, highly-effective machine for photo stimulation of the body’s cells using LED light.

LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are diodes which emit light at specific wavelengths.
Using LEDs, most of the wavelengths found in solar light can be recreated in a very pure form. This means that you can pick out wavelengths (colours) with the desired therapeutic effect and apply them in large doses without exposure to the sun’s damaging waves such as ultraviolet light (UV). LED technology has undergone dramatic development in the last ten years and it is now possible to produce highly-intensive treatment equipment. The amount of energy you can apply using a highly-effective LED unit is generally greater than with laser treatment. The energy from the LED light is, however, spread over a very large area.

­ The SpectraDerm 5000 emits seven different wavelengths of light with an optical output of max. 15,000mW.
Light in the violet – blue-green range, 405nm, 415nm and 505nm.
Light in the visible red range, 625nm and 670nm.
Light in the invisible infrared range, 850nm and 940nm.

 

 

Violet-Blue light, (1), (2).

Used to kill certain bacteria on the skin. The treatment works based on the fact that the bacteria (e.g. Acne Vulgaris) contain porphyrins (cuproporphyrin), which effectively absorb specific waves of blue light. The intense absorption of energy by the bacteria creates singlet oxygen, which oxidises the bacteria without affecting other cells.
The blue light penetrates the skin approx. 1-2 mm.

Visible red light and infrared light. (3), (4),( 5).

Red and infrared light have been used in treatment since the 1980s.
Results from numerous studies show that the light stimulates and accelerates different processes in the body’s natural healing processes.
These include:
-    Stimulating the formation of nitric oxide (NO), which is important for transporting oxygen to the cells, among other things.
-    Stimulating the reformation of new capillaries (blood vessels), which promotes healing.
-    Stimulating the growth of collagen in tissue.
-    Stimulating the production of adenosintriphosphate (ATP). ATP is one of the main components in cells’ energy supply.
-    Increasing the number of phagocytes, which play an important role in helping the body to fight infection.

-    Acne and acne scars
-    Rejuvenation and tightening up of the skin.
-    Stimulating elastane and collagen formation.
-    Infected wounds.
-    Operation scars.
Various types of inflammation such as:
-    Sinusitis.
-    Inflammation of the joints and muscles.
-    Pulpitis.

Side effects
The SpectraDerm 5000 should not be used if the patient suffers from porphyria or is taking medication which makes the skin sensitive to light.

Description of the machine: SpectraDerm 5000 is an LED-based machine used in phototherapy. The LED bridges are logic-controlled via a “touch screen”, which enables the choice of frequency, pulsing of diodes, optical output and amount of energy applied to be calculated and controlled. Ready-to-go treatment programs can be stored in the unit.

Cooling: Water-cooled diode bridges with continuous circulation via a fan-cooled radiator.
Monitoring: Continuous reading of the LED bridges’ temperature.
